“What was I thinking?”
That’s the question I asked myself almost every day for three months after accepting the challenge of being Discovery Channel’s next Undercover Billionaire. That’s right. Uncle G is back on TV for season two of the hit TV show on Discovery Channel which airs January 6th, 2021.
I’ll tell you right now that there were times I wasn’t sure if I was going to last. Hell, there were a few times when I didn’t know if I was going to survive. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Undercover Billionaire, here’s the deal. Discovery Channel takes a successful entrepreneur business owner like me and takes away everything. I mean everything. They took my name. They took my possessions. They took my phone and all my contacts. They even took my @#&*ing hair…and I agreed to all of it. Then they gave me an old cell phone, a beat-up set of wheels (to replace my Rolls-Royce) and $100 before they dropped me off in a town which had definitely seen better days. Oh yeah, they gave me one more thing; a challenge to start a business which could generate $1,000,000 in, get this, 90 days. And I said “yes” to it all.
What was I thinking?
I can’t even claim ignorance on this one because I watched my friend Glenn Stearns go through the same thing on the first season of Undercover Billionaire. I remember watching Glenn suffering and struggling every week. Every episode I said to my wife, Elena, that I would never do that. But at the same time, I was asking myself if I could do that. At the time I never imagined that I would have the chance to find out…the hard way.
So with a new identity and a new appearance I rolled into my new hometown for the next three months. I had no place to stay and no friends. Hell, I didn’t know a soul in this town and I looked like I had just crawled out of a dumpster. I had no plan and no resources except for a piece of junk car, a cell phone and $100 in my pocket. It’s been a while since Uncle G was this down and out like this. I never thought that I would find myself back in this situation, that it would be my decision and that the whole thing would be televised for millions to watch.
Once again…what was I thinking? I’m still not 100% sure but I do know that if what Glenn and I went through can inspire and give hope to people who are truly facing the challenges we took on voluntarily, then everything I went through will have been worth it.

I had everything taken away from me as the result of one decision but I’ll tell you that everything I have today came to me as the result of another single decision…to be great, successful, happy, and free!
