What Sales Lessons Were Learned?

Here we are in a new year, let’s reflect a little on what sales lessons were learned last year.

One of the best ways to create success in sales is by learning from the lessons you’re provided. All of us were provided a variety of lessons in 2020 that we can learn from and become better for.

Here are a few ideas that come to mind:

  • Expect the unexpected and be prepared for the unthinkable.
  • Remote selling and virtual meetings aren’t the way of the future, they’re the here and the now.
  • Diversify your offerings. Those who had a diverse set of products or services were often the ones who were able to continue thriving in 2020.
  • Become good at adaptation. Again, we all had to adapt to varying degrees last year. And, from a business standpoint, the organizations that acted quickly, and were willing to adapt, continued to do well in many cases.
  • Your online footprint matters more than ever before.
  • If your website has a clunky or glitchy ordering system, your sales will suffer.
  • Even the pandemic presented new opportunities. For example, many digital-based businesses thrived last year. Many started making-making businesses, or created online infrastructures. It wasn’t a decline across the board.
  • Mindset is critical and one’s perspective makes a great deal of difference in their results. Last year, I discussed the two types of sellers that emerged during the pandemic, and one of the biggest differentiating factors between them is mindset.
  • Make more time for what matters. Life is short.

In 2021, we’re all much more experienced and prepared than we were a year ago. Even though things remain largely uncertain, I know that by focusing on the lessons learned, you’ll make 2021 a great year.

And, by focusing on learning mode even in 2021 and beyond, you’ll assure your continued success.
