3 Tips to Keep Pushing for More in 2019

Grant, you’re wearing me out.” I hear that often.

Many people think they can’t keep up with my activity levels.

They wonder how I can go from one appointment to the next without breaks.

They can’t fathom why somebody with hundreds of millions of dollars is pitching a $10 E-book on a Tuesday night at 9pm over Facebook live.

Besides the fact that I believe I’m helping people, I want to sell more because it’s better to have and NOT need than to ever have a shortage.

Too many people are under the “enough myth”, thinking they have enough when they don’t. Only later they will realize it—when it’s too late.

That’s how all shortages come about, you think there is enough until there isn’t.

I don’t have enough, and you don’t either.

I won’t be satisfied with a billion dollars. You want infinite growth and influence.

But the very idea of infinite growth and influence is at odds against the “enough” mentality.

People who believe they have “enough” are usually the same people who have what I call a “shortage mindset”, which believes there aren’t infinite resources available.

When you have in your mind shortages, you start thinking about what is getting wasted. People criticize me and my wealth because they think one person having so much money is “wasteful”.

How could one consume so much, isn’t enough, enough?

I go to Malibu…

and I’ll rent a home on the beach for a few weeks and spend $200,000. Let me tell you, the only people who think that is a waste are the people who think they can’t get another $200,000.

Nobody I’ve talked to who has more money than me thinks that’s a waste.

Think about it, you spend $1 like it’s nothing, right?

You know you’ve wasted a dollar before.

Maybe you gave it to a guy on the side of the street who you know went and bought alcohol, maybe you just bought something at the dollar store you didn’t need and never used—it could be anything.

The point is, you’ve wasted a dollar because you know you can make at least another dollar.

The same thing is true with the way I spend money but just on a bigger scale. I know that I can not only make another dollar—I can make another $20 million.

There is no shortage of money!

Check out the world’s largest business conference!

It’s difficult to waste a resource that is found in abundance everywhere.

If there is ever a shortage of money the government will just print more of it, so it’s not a matter of not being able to create a dollar, it’s a matter of being able to find who has your money.

The shortage mindset doesn’t just impact people in regards to money.

  • How many people won’t let old leftovers go to waste in their fridge?
  • How many people always feel they must finish their plate every single meal?

I never finish everything on my plate. I purposely leave something on my plate to remind myself that there is an abundance in the world and I will have another meal, even if I leave food on my plate.

If I took you inside my kitchen and gave you access to my fridge, you’d find it packed full of fresh, organic fruits and veggies. I always want as much as I want around—and it’s ok if it goes bad and unused.

If you’ve got a $5 box of blueberries going bad in your fridge, that’s not your problem.

Your problem is that it’s your only $5 box of blueberries.

While the middle class is built on the “shortage” mentality, I’ve known for a long time it takes an abundance to meet the demands of life and to prosper massively.

If you feel you need to eat old leftovers or finish everything on your plate, that comes from a scarcity mindset as if we don’t have enough food and if you don’t eat it all now, there won’t be any later.

I have 3 tips for you today:

#1 Get rid of your shortage mentality.

If you don’t, you will feel guilty for pushing for more in life because you’ll constantly feel like you’re somehow taking more than “your share”.

In every situation where there is a shortage, people want to divide the resource so that nobody has more than they need, right?

This is why a shortage mindset is connected with the “I have enough” mindset.

I understand that when there is a shortage, goods should not be hoarded.

We had Hurricane Irma come through Florida, and in the days leading up to the storm all the gas and all the shelves in the grocery stores were cleaned out.

A local Walmart was limiting water bottles so that one individual could only purchase so much. This helped more people get the water they needed to prepare for the hurricane that was coming.

The difference between me making another million dollars and the water bottle situation above, is that there is no shortage of money.

You don’t lose your chance to make more money if I make more money. My success does not hinder your success.

In fact, oftentimes success breeds success. This is why when economies start to grow everyone seems to do better.

When more money is circulated, when more products are exchanged, when more value gets transferred, it’s a win-win for society.

Believe me, you want economic expansion, not contraction.

Nobody will ever tell you that “enough is enough” when it comes to economic growth of a city, state, or country—unless they like depressions.

So why is it then ok then to say “enough is enough” to any individual?

#2 Never compromise on what you truly want.

I know it’s bad for you, but sometimes I enjoy a diet coke. I don’t even drink the whole can, I might buy a can just to have one sip.

I don’t do diet coke in a bottle though, only a can. That’s how I like it and I’ll send it back if it’s not how I want it.

It may be a small thing, but…

I’ve learned not to compromise on what I want.

If I compromise and drink my diet coke in a bottle, I’m not going to enjoy it as much. Why should I accept that?

Sending back a diet coke because it’s in a bottle as opposed to a can isn’t comfortable — people may label you as picky, a primadonna.

But is it better to compromise on what you want?

The middle-class compromises because being comfortable is a compromise.

They don’t want to rock the boat and upset the status quo. They don’t want to push for more than $50,000 a year, or $70,000, or whatever the number is that is “just enough” to get by.

If you want to live an abundant life, don’t compromise on what you want.

When I was young, my mom often reminded me of how “lucky” I was and that I should have been grateful for all I that I had.

We have more than most,” was what I continually heard, along with, “Never take any of this for granted.”

Take what for granted?

A middle-class lifestyle?

We had electricity, dinner on the table, and a roof over our head.

I guess I had it better than some unknown person in India or Africa that I was supposed to compare myself to?

But looking at National Geographic pictures of people living in mud huts just never made me feel much better about my own circumstances.

The fact is you want—and need—more than just basic necessities.

You need to succeed big in life, and that means more than just having a job, access to health care, an education, housing, food, and transportation.

Has anybody asked you about what your dreams are in life, and you answered them, “Basic needs!”

Of course not. Nobody has fantasies of just having their basic needs met—or of just having “enough”.

This is the reason why having just “enough” is a compromise.

Admit it, you want more than enough. I have personal fantasies of indestructible wealth and fame and the desire to create a legacy that will outlast my time on this planet.

Is it just me? I suspect you do too.

Tell me, why is it that people tend to remind you to be grateful when you compare yourself to those less fortunate, but when you start comparing yourself to rich people, they urge you not to make comparisons?

At a certain point, people who have stopped pushing for more have inevitably been sold into the idea to compromise on what they truly want in order to have some idea of “enough” by comparing themselves with what others have or don’t have.

Don’t compromise on what you want!

#3 You must get disciplined.

If you’re going to push for more in life, you’ll need to get disciplined—there’s no getting around it. If you do what the other 99% do, you’ll never have what the 1% have.

I do what others refuse to do.  Most people won’t work weekends and won’t get ruthless with their calendar.

This is what I call my beast mode clock:

05:00 – 05:45 – Kids
05:45 – 06:15 – Workout
06:15 – 06:30 – Breakfast
06:30 – 06:45 – Get Dressed
06:45 – 07:00 – Drive to Work
07:00 – 08:00 – Work
08:00 – 08:15 – Executive Meeting
08:15 – 09:00 – Work
09:00 – 09:30 – Sales Meeting
09:30 – 11:30 – Work
11:30 – 12:00 – Lunch
12:00 – 12:45 – Production
12:45 – 16:00 – Work
16:00 – 16:15 – Drive Home
16:15 – 18:00 – Work
18:00 – 18:45 – Kids
18:45 – 21:00 – Work
21:00 – 22:00 – Honey Time
22:00 – 05:00 – Sleep

I keep a very tight, disciplined schedule to keep myself and my company focused and productive. This helps me always push for more.

Time X Actions = Measure of Advance

The degree to which you advance is only limited by the amount of time and action you invest.

While much—if not most—of the world vehemently refuses to spend time on activities that won’t immediately pay off, I would personally rather be productive and not be paid than not be productive and not be paid.

I would rather do something for free than nothing at all. While many might disagree with that perspective, I can assure you that sooner or later, the productive person will be paid in some way, and the unproductive people won’t.

The person who willingly swings the bat has a better chance at hitting a home run than the person who refuses to swing, right?

If you march into any battle without the proper troops, supplies, ammunition, training and staying power, you will be defeated. It’s as simple as that.

It’s not enough to invade a territory you must be able to keep it. If you want more than “enough”, you need to make your own 24-Hour clock and start dominating your time.
