In her 30-plus years in the U.S., Arianna Huffington reached the pinnacle of success; truly the embodiment of the American Dream.
Wealthy, famous, powerful, respected and influential, and in huge amounts. In 2009, Forbes named her as the 12th Most Influential Woman in Media. Later, they ranked her 52nd Most Powerful Woman in the World.
TIME chose her as one of the world’s 100 Most Influential People.
Oh, and, after having founded The Huffington Post in 2005, she sold it in 2011 to AOL for $315 million, becoming Editor-in-Chief of The Huffington Post Media Group. In 2012, the digital media enterprise became the first of it’s kind to win a Pulitzer prize.
She had it all.
But along the way, something happened. And it caused her to think that perhaps she didn’t…totally have it all. The big Aha! we often hear about.
That Aha moment would cause her not only to take stock of her success (“is this really what success feels like?“); it would result in a mega-bestselling book that would help her readers do the same. More than that, it would begin a movement where people re-connected with what was truly important to them.
Thrive: The Third Metric to Redefining Success And Creating A Life of Well-Being, Wisdom, And Wonder was published in hardcover in 2014 (just re-released in paperback) and it took the world by storm. Its major purpose: To change the definition of success.
Perhaps it was about a shift in understanding. As she wrote, “Money and power by themselves are like a two-legged stool — you can balance on them for a while, but eventually you’re going to topple over. And more and more people — very successful people — are toppling over.” She continued by saying, “We need a third leg — a Third Metric for defining success — in order to live a healthy, balanced, and meaningful life.”
But please don’t confuse this with being anti-free market or contra entrepreneurship in any way. She’s proven to be a most valuable creator in that regard.
However, she is advocating the above-mentioned Third Metric as being, “Our well-being, our ability to draw on our intuition and inner wisdom, our sense of wonder, and our capacity for giving.”

♥…IDK about anyone else, but ending with a discussion of Kobe Bryant advocating for Sleep & Meditation, starting with how to THRIVE and redefine Success (Steve Jobs/Aristotle style), and mixing in a Mindful Oprah Winfrey Network OCourse to map the steps folks need to ‘Be The Change’, released so much Dopamine into my nervous system, I’m high as a Kite (& feeling Inspired to help in the way that I do…via Empathy & Compassion) 😉
Thanks Bob, thanks Arianna!

Hi Bob,
Another great interview! Have I mentioned lately how much I appreciate your ability to bring out the best in your guests in such a short format!
We don’t always want or need to hear the BIG story to understand why we need to care about a person, their work or a topic.
Great work!
Jeff
Jeff: Thank you for that fantastic feedback. VERY grateful for that, and so glad you enjoyed the interview with the amazing Arianna!
Some great reminders in there Bob and Arianna. Added book to list of things to read while I should be sleeping. Just kidding. Sort of. Ok. I should stop doing that.
Doug: LOL! Thank you. Glad you enjoyed the interview!
