The Eternal Motivator Video

Motivating others comes easy for some and can be more challenging for others. But there are moments we can provide an Eternal Motivator, but only if we act on……watch the video for the rest of the story.

What can you do or what can you say to help motivate your sales people? Now this might sound strange because I’m usually one that says we don’t motivate others. They have to bring their own motivation. Motivating others is just tapping into helping them find their own internal motivation. So what’s the Big E, the eternal motivator?

I have to go back in time with a story. It goes back to my childhood when I was a junior in high school. My dad was a musician, a singer and songwriter. He had his band from 14 years old through his whole life. He could sing and I loved listening to his voice. It was also intimidating to me because I couldn’t sing as well. In other words, I was self-conscious when I sang. In high school I started picking up a guitar and playing on my own. I would sing some Crosby, Stills, and Nash and other types of songs.

One day, I was on the living room floor, just leaning up against the wall. I could still picture myself there. That’s how powerful that moment was. I was strumming and singing, but under my breath. My dad was in the house. I didn’t want him to really hear me because I was afraid i wasn’t singing very well. Well, he did hear me. And he walked up to me and he said, “Rene, you’ve got a good voice!” It still brings tears to my eyes thinking about it because even after all these years, it still means a lot to me. That’s how powerful those words were.

Consequently, when you see or hear something that your sales team is doing really well make sure you come in the next day and see them or send them a message to tell them how well they are doing. You can write a note card to say, “You know what, I just noticed that you work really hard. You’re so dedicated to the role of serving our customers”. Whatever the words are that are in your heart, tell them. You can keep an eye out for things that your team is doing right. Notice those things and tell them, “You know, that was outstanding. You nailed it and I couldn’t have done it any better.” Let people know what they’re doing right. And those words of encouragement, might end up bringing tears to their eyes and a whole lot of motivation for the day ahead.

That’s the Eternal motivator; Encouragement.

Sales management and sales leadership doesn’t have to be difficult sometimes, if you just follow your heart and then act on it. So go encourage someone today.
