Are You Attractive to Top Sales Talent?

Get creative.

That’s my advice for any business owner or sales leader about to embark on a new phase of recruiting. Far too many leaders stick to the same old, same old when it comes to their recruitment process and trying to find top sales talent to join their team.

It’s surprising to see how many organizations stick with ads in the paper, online postings and even using the same recruiters they’ve used in the past. They don’t switch things up!

The result? The same tired and boring resumes that keeping flocking in. Sure – you may find a great hire in that pile of resumes. But, generally speaking, if you want to find a “stand out” candidate, don’t use a worn out process to try and attract them.

Here’s how you can add a little creativity to your hiring process:

– Map out new places you can physically place yourself to find new candidates.

– Go to new recruiters that specialize in other industries.

– Create an employee referral program.

– Meet new people at trade shows.

And my personal favorite approach? You can even go to your clients and ask this question:

“Who else sells to you, outside of our industry, that you love working with and would also be a good fit for our team?”

Think about it. If your clients love working with one company in particular, chances are the people within that company are responsible for providing a great experience. Perhaps this company has a fun and interactive interviewing process? Maybe they offer attractive benefits? Or could they just be focusing heavily on company culture and building a positive atmosphere for their employees?

Obviously, the answer will vary based on each specific organization. That being said – you can learn what other companies are doing to attract and retain top talent and implement similar approaches in your own business. Chances are, they are doing something creative to get good people.

As the world becomes increasingly connected, it’s becoming more and more important to be creative and innovative. But, many businesses have not yet realized that the hiring process is not immune to these changes.

Top candidates are being identified, found and lured in by innovative approaches. <– Click to Tweet

  1. I would also recommend utilising independent sales professionals who already have have networks of contacts in your industry and can potentially open doors to new business much more cost effectively than hiring new in-house sales staff.
