Attract The Right Job Or Clientele:

In a previous blog, I asked, ‘Are your goal-driven?’  to then reveal my laser goal-setting system. An exciting project for next year has made me realize the need to segment tedious tasks into doable actions; otherwise, it would be overwhelming. Combining the goal system and compartmentalizing the more significant projects will enable us to remain on track and accomplish what we want within our set parameters.

My Story

Year-end has many facing the need to create new assignments and goals for the New Year. However, seemingly unending projects need to complete before the year ends. No one wants to put many extra hours into a working day, so realizing how efficiencies may take hold and help produce what we need is essential.

One example is editing a lengthy corporate report or authors to review and potentially revise a manuscript.  But with the holidays fast approaching and other tasks needing completion, it’s challenging to read through the many pages accurately.  A tiny bit of math enables the ability to segment projects.  Divide the number of pages necessary to read by the number of days available to complete the project.

For example, consider having ten days remaining until you need to devote your time to personal endeavors and 240 pages awaiting your review. By committing to carefully reading 24 pages per day for ten days, you will complete the project and be able to spend the time afterward as you wish.

The exact process works for any endeavor.  I’ve come to learn that those who monitor heart rates do best by standing up frequently and walking around on quick breaks, plus going to the gym.  But concentrating on a full-time job can make it seem overwhelming.  I’m learning that taking one-minute breaks throughout the day to stand up and walk inside an office or hallway is good for one’s heart.  Similarly, we often dismiss working out at a gym because it’s too time-consuming with an hour goal in mind.  But, a half-hour works well too and is far better than not making an effort at all.

Today, it’s easier than ever to segment tedious projects with technology.  Years ago, our life depended upon doing errands after hours.  Now, ordering what we need online and companies delivering it can save us many hours each week.  There is always a workaround for the mind-boggling projects when we are willing to stop, consider the possibilities, and then create our systematic approach for completion

By segmenting everything in our obligation, we can better remain motivated to see it through to the end. Even better is to leave the stress behind as we realize what we need to do to complete projects in a timely fashion.

Your Story:  Do You Segment Tedious Projects?

One of the more helpful habits during the holidays is to examine what may be adding to the stress.  Should this be a concern of yours, first consider whether it’s something over which you have control?  If the answer is ‘no’, attempt to put your mind on something more relaxing or fulfilling.  However, if you have a concern about how you will complete a project on time, consider the suggestion of dividing the project into bite-size pieces for easy digestion.

The first task is to list the projects that need completion by the last day of the month. Of all those you acknowledge, decide which is the most essential but unusually complex. Should you face pressure and concern about completion, examine the pieces of your puzzle to complete and finalize.

Become your champion by creating steps to achieve a challenging goal and a small reward for doing it. Once a smile enters the picture, feel motivated to continue by repeating the steps.  Compartmentalize tedious projects and portions of each to make them achievable in a reasonable amount of time.

Now that you are getting accustomed to finishing tedious projects more quickly review your goal-setting activities and accomplishments.  By combining the segmentation process and the consistent arranging of goals for achievement, efficiencies will increase in many respects.  The bonus is enjoying time set aside for those endeavors you hold most important and want to accomplish on the side.

In summary, by combining the laser goal-setting system and the segmentation of projects and finding time to spend on what you hold dear, you will accomplish far more than you anticipate upfront.  Of course, it will be time once again to reset your long-term vision and goals!
