Note:  Our collaborative blog offers ideas on how to ‘Protect Your company Wisely: Use These 3 Tactics.’  Given the almost overwhelming news about scams of many types, it’s more important than ever that we digest all the suggestions we hear and see to select the better ones for our companies.

Every story has two sides, and so does technology. The new technological advances can make our systems far more efficient and help create a far more robust effect.  But the negative side is that high tech can more easily draw the attention of hackers and scammers.  We must protect our company wisely to remain in business for the long term.

Protect Your Company Wisely:
Use These 3 Tactics

Learning to improve your business involves many different methods that contradict one another. You study how to improve a burgeoning marketing strategy one day, and the next, you’ve got to be knee-deep in technology. But all this is covered under the all-important notion of protecting your business correctly. A secure business is not just about looking after your assets. It’s about making sure that everything is cost-effective and efficient.

Looking after your business can be as time-consuming as running the company. But because crime covers so many different business components, you have to be aware of the various methods of security that ensure your business will stay protected. Let’s show you some things to implement.

  1. Understand the Technological Boundaries

You may want to turn your business into a productive one which, for some people, means cutting corners. But if you are looking to make life easier, for example, by incorporating a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy, you will need to understand the technical limitations of these. It will be wise to seriously consider having a VPN (Virtual Private Network) or a VPS (Virtual Private Server).

Whatever the status of your business may be, you can always purchase a cheap VPS that can protect you from a variety of breaches. It’s about making sure that you roll out a policy gradually. When you start to trial methods such as a BYOD policy, doing it on a smaller scale will give you a better idea of whether it will work or not.

  1. Ramping up Your Physical Security

If you are renting an office, you may very well have a security guard on-site, but it is necessary to make sure that you cover a wide variety of secure points. For example, you could implement a visitor management policy to monitor your unescorted visitors. Additionally, you could improve the components of the front gates. ID cards are essential, and an ID card is a straightforward security element that will go a long way.

  1. Make Sure Your Staff Understands What Needs to Be Done

There are so many threats, but we have to make sure that our workers know what to do if there are any serious ones. If you have an inexperienced staff member, they may feel put in a position to put themselves at risk to protect the business. However, this is endemic in environments with poor training regimes

Ensuring that your business is protected includes giving your staff the necessary information to assess the situation and exercise common sense. However, we cannot take common sense for granted. It is vital to put processes and procedures in place for yourself and staff members to understand what they should do in an emergency.

We all need to pay attention to business security, but it can be a significant expense. At some point, almost every business finds itself a target, whether it is big or small. Protection is not about the right tools, but it’s about having the right mindset to ensure that your business goes the distance.

The ultimate goal is to be in business for as long as the company desires by eliminating unnecessary risk and encouraging client loyalty.
