FlyMsg – I Dip My Toe Into The AI Pool

Never say never. While I have been hesitant to explore the sales related applications of AI, let alone adopt them, I have finally decided to dip my old wrinkly toe into the AI pool. What changed? Not much, however, I have been introduced to a fairly simple tool that will allow me to experiment with AI on a limited and focused basis.

FlyMsg is primarily used as a text expander. FlyCuts are actually text templates that you create and then call up with a short code of your naming. For example, I have a short code, -zoom, that will populate text instructing folks on how to schedule a Zoom consultation with me.

What’s nice is that these codes can be used anywhere on the web. I have a package (more on that later), that allows me to create unlimited FlyCuts which can also be categorized. There are also FlyPlates which are pre-written templates that you can edit and use to your liking as new FlyCuts.

I have tested these in Gmail, Google Docs, social sites, and WordPress. There is a bug, reported, that prevents me from using them in my CRM, Nimble. Hopefully, this will be corrected. At least at this time, it is not available as a mobile app. It works as a browser extension.

There is also a feature called FlyAI. This brings artificial intelligence to LinkedIn posts, messages, and comments. LinkedIn only, which is fine by me as I have no interest in the other social networks.

When activated by creating a post etc., a series of template “prompts” (query instructions to the AI engine) will appear. You can select from these templates and then edit the prompt for your specific request. From there, the magic happens and your generated response is populated.

An important part of this process is the ease of editing the response before publishing it. Not only is this appealing to me, I have avoided AI since I don’t want some bot writing for me as me. This way I can maintain a level of personalization and authenticity. The AI will assist me, not replace me.

While this can also be used for connection requests and delivering things like congratulatory messages, I’m not inclined to use it in these instances. Connection requests, in particular, require a high degree of personalization and any hint of automation defeats that purpose. I’m going to take things … slowly.

Presently, the AI responses are being generated by a Google service. I have been told that there are plans to also integrate OpenAI’s technology. I can say that the folks at Vengreso (FlyMsg’s parent company) have been very responsive to my questions (Thanks, Santiago!).

Everybody, even free accounts, is offered a complimentary 30-minute onboarding session. To my surprise, the company CEO, Mario Martinez Jr., conducted mine and we spent an hour on Zoom doing so. That says something! Also, one of the co-founders is Viveka Von Rosen who is a well known LinkedIn author and influencer.

FlyMsg is offered as a free or a premium subscription. There are 14-day free trials on the premium packages (no credit card required). I started on free, went to a trial, and then converted to a premium program. On an annual basis, premium packages range from only $2.25 to $11.00 per month! Tough to beat!

I ended up in the middle at $5.50 per month and even scored a 15% promotional discount bringing my annual total to only $56.10. Even an old retired guy like me can afford that:) The $11.00 package (Sales Pro) is designed for power users and it includes selling education videos, scripts, and playbooks. Maybe later.

Well, here I go. Please wish me luck. Maybe old dogs can learn new tric
