Attract the Right Job Or Clientele:

Are You Aware Holidays Can Require Sales Skills?

In the United States, our Thanksgiving Holiday celebration occurs this week. Ideally, family and friends gather for a scrumptious meal and exchange stories with laughter. The better goal is to create a welcoming and inclusive environment to create fond memories.

But we each know deep down that sometimes the conversations ‘get out of hand’ and anger can quickly ruin the intended goodwill holiday. It may be wise to state upfront before sitting at the dinner table, ‘No discussions about politics are allowed!’ However, experience reveals that only some possess a similar state of mind. In addition to diplomacy, be aware holidays can require sales skills.

My Story

As we mature, it’s natural to realize that not all of our perspectives are welcome. Movies and television depict the holidays as the better times in our lives, but that isn’t accurate for many. We do well to promise to maintain ‘our cool’ and use sales techniques to calm potentially heated conversations.

Disagreements do best when we strive to understand the other person’s perspectives. Questions and digging deep for an in-depth understanding can reveal insights we may have overlooked.

  1. We can boldly suggest that the topic moves to another.
  2. We can ask the traditional, ‘Why?’ after hearing a strange thought.
  3. Working toward consensus or agreement to disagree can ease the tension at the table.

Social settings are like striving to find better online or in-person connections. When we attempt to make friends with everyone and then discover the true nature of some, we are aghast as to why we didn’t detect it upfront.

There is little doubt that holidays can require sales skills involving diplomacy. The sales process begins with asking for our prospect’s perspective first to realize the better direction for the conversation. A similar approach works well for guests or being in the company of others. Discussing the other person’s personal or social interests can help us avoid unpleasant holiday experiences and recall the holiday long after with fond memories.

Your Story: Aware Holidays Can Require Sales Skills

Diplomacy is a necessary component of all conversations. Should you detect something about to create a stir at the dinner table, attempt to direct the conversation to something more cheerful. Leadership comes in all forms and styles; be the leader for the evening.

After the occasion, reflect on the most enjoyable and any elements that need revising. No matter our work or participation, it’s best to have the event bring a smile with fond memories. Consider how you may maximize the experience in the following years.

Most are unaware that sales skills enter communications unexpectedly. Better outcomes typically arrive with thought upfront, diplomacy during, and a thankful conclusion at the end.

In Conclusion: Aware Holidays Can Require Sales Skills

On a personal note, it took many years for us to pare down the guest list and celebrate with those we hold near and dear. My wish for you is to experience the same. Our ultimate goal is to have A Happy Thanksgiving Holiday!
