Of course, the goal is to walk away with fond everlasting memories. But nothing is safe from imperfection, and for business, we can pick up on instances and nuances to improve our approach upon our return. Travel can open minds to new business strategies.

My Story

Our visit to Iceland was something I always wanted to do, and it proved to be remarkable on many levels. The preservation of the natural beauty is breathtaking along the shores and on the Fjords. Bravery is almost a requirement for climbing the mountains to gather special eggs or traveling the choppy seas to witness water caves thousands of years old formed by volcanic explosions.

Most of our journey was on a modest-sized cruise ship. Meal preparations represent cuisines from around the world. Coincidentally or deliberately – each evening’s performance showcases highly talented singers, dancers, and musicians from varying countries. Each could qualify to be on Broadway, and one talented opera singer has performed globally. Together, their harmonious singing and dancing brought about standing ovations every time.

Similarly, the staff is professionally friendly, helpful, and notably from varying heritage. On the last night of the cruise, the Activity Director announced that the entire employee staff represents 48 countries. It is a remarkable statistic that confirms the essence of excellent customer care. 

Aligning with the diverse population onboard, the ship featured cuisine from a different country each evening in addition to the more traditional. Food is always an excellent entry into teams’ and clientele’s hearts and minds, leading to further business. 

Business Focus: Embracing the uniqueness of one another regardless of heritage will enhance customer care that will earn client loyalty. And taking the time to learn about one another’s culture and traditions expands creativity to open many more doors of opportunity.

Upon traveling to Oslo and Copenhagen, we witness entrepreneurial type endeavors of many types. And the more creative styles attract larger crowds.

The first time for anything can be scary and challenging, but once we acclimate to travel, the limitations are few and far between. Our minds expand in thought for new possibilities when we return home. 

Whether you are the CEO of a large company or a solo entrepreneur, doing the same year after year can prove to be boring, no matter the income. However, upon taking a calculated risk to try something new, possibilities will expand to invite new opportunities. 

Management will do well to consider their budgets and offer positions overseas for a limited time to expand the employee experience and realize that one way, every day, is not the better road to success. Experiencing new ways of doing business and approaches to lifestyle can significantly expand a person’s thinking for additional ideas to generate further business.

Business Focus: Consider establishing a global leadership program whereby those wishing to advance into management can work abroad for one year to substantially increase their knowledge about varying ways of conducting business. The more robust the thinking among staff, the greater the likelihood of business growth will accompany it.

The travel experience leads to a better and more comprehensive understanding of others. Barriers fade when we work with open minds rather than slamming doors due to fear that limits growth for individuals, companies, and clientele. A genuine global economy focuses on finding commonalities and differences within varying cultures to build a more united effort for moving forward together.
