Cold calling is alive—at least when you look at the number of posts proclaiming its death. Also, judging by the number of “cold calls” I get every day. It’s unfortunate that a discussion about cold calling has to start with definitions and semantic disclaimers.

Recently, someone made a comment saying, “It’s interesting to see cold calling coming back into style… ” The comment startled me, and I can see where the speaker was coming from, but I couldn’t have disagreed more. The reality is cold calling has never gone out of style.

Someone tried to suck me into a LinkedIn discussion on cold calling today. The article declaring cold calling dead was written by a colleague I deeply respect, and I have no disagreement with the points in her article. I’ll look at a variety of aspect of cold calling. What is cold calling?
